Fresha Fruit Juice Warrnambool presented two big feature events at Sungold Stadium, Premier
Speedway, Warrnambool as the Victorian Sprintcar Championship and the Junior Sedan Neville Pike Cup were contested.
A big New Year’s Day crowd witnessed some exciting racing, as Matthew Dumesny claimed his maiden Victorian Sprintcar Title after a race long battle with eventual runner up David Murcott.
Daniel Pestka backed up his podium finish at Max’s Race in December with another strong third place run while James McFadden captured the Victorian Speedweek Bonus with a fourth race finish backing up his win at Avalon on Thursday night.
By virtue of being the overall fastest qualifier James McFadden picked up an extra $250.00 from Tony Loxley and Full Throttle Publishing.
The five heat races were inverted by six based on qualifying times and were taken out by Marcus Dumesny, Rusty Hickman, Brett Milburn, Brendan Quinn and Matthew Reed.
The D-Main was won by Tim Hutchins, while Leigh Mugavin, Robbie Paton and Kevin Reeves also transferred to the C-Main.
The C-Main again saw four drivers with Cameron Waters taking the win from Andrew Hughes, Lachlan McDonough and Dayne Bentvelzen.
The B-Main was littered with stoppages; however, Ryan Jones took the win and made his way to the A-Main along with Darren Mollenoyux, Jordyn Charge, Matthew Reed, Peter Doukas and Callum Walker.
In the 30-lap final Dumesny was all class at the front of the field despite consistently being pressured by David Murcott as they made their way through lap traffic.
Daniel Pestka was again prominent in third with McFadden and Lines rounding out the top five.
The Junior Sedan Neville Pike Cup for 2022 saw Carter Metcalfe claim the coveted prize as he led home Linken Paterson and Tanner Barclay in an entertaining affair.
In the New Stars Junior Sedans, the 12-lap final saw Jayden Lock set a new 12 lap Junior Sedan record in a strong display winning the final ahead of Jake Bradley and Jasmine Bryant. The new 12 lap time was 3:31.215.
