AMERICAN SPRINTCAR STAR DANNY SMITH TOPS AWARDS

American Sprintcar driver Danny Smith, a name well known to Australian fans, was honoured as the 2021 United Sprintcar Series Outlaw Thunder Tour Champion recently at a banquet in Fayetteville, Georgia.
Smith, who made many Australian tours after he first raced here in the early 80s as Gambler factory driver, will be back behind the wheel as he sets off on his title defence at the Hendry County Motorsports Park, Clewiston, Florida this coming weekend (february 4-5).
Smith, 64, continues his magnificent career which in earlier years saw him as a regular on the World of Outlaws National Championship circuit.
Among many highlights of his Australian campaigns are back-to-back victories New South Wales Sprintcar Championships (1985, ’86) and two wins in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic 1989, ’96) at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.
He was also placed in the top three of the World Series Sprintcars Championship several times.
Originally from Danville, Indiana, Smith these days resides at Chillicothe, Ohio.
