BELLE VUE SPEEDWAY: ACES CALL ON ALLEN
Belle Vue Speedway PR:
AHEAD of the club’s first team event against Sheffield on Monday, March 28, Belle Vue have signed Australian racer Jake Allen on a short-term contract.
The 2017 Queensland Champion also lines up for the Scunthorpe Scorpions this season, after spending a year with Teesside club Redcar last season.
But he found himself without a Premiership team place in 2022 after missing out on a spot with former club Ipswich, with whom he’d spent the last two campaigns.
On Allen’s signing, Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon said: “Finally, after what seems like an impossible international rider search, we have given Jake Allen a chance to showcase his abilities.
“He joins us on a short-term contract from Scunthorpe while we consider our available options going forward, but I really believe in his talent.
“I have worked with Jake before on an international level and I see no reason why he can’t push on and show me why he shouldn’t remain with us longer term.
“He is more than capable of being a competitive rider at Premiership level and, whilst ongoing conversations continue, I am keen to see what he can do.”
The 26-year-old Allen is looking forward to the opportunity to race with the ATPI Aces and is determined to make every lap count.
He said: “I’m really good friends with Charles [Wright] and he’s told me how professional Belle Vue are as a club, so I’m really looking forward to the opportunity.
“It is such a well-respected club and I know the lads are wanting to go one better this season after coming so close at Peterborough last year.
“For me, this is a real chance to prove myself. I fully understand this is a short-term contract but I want to perform at a level that might persuade Lemmo to keep me around.
“I want to be scoring into the double figures on a consistent basis and I intend to use this time to really show what I can do at the top level of British Speedway.”
Belle Vue commence team competition in the Premiership League cup against the Sheffield Tigers on Monday, March 28.
