DANISH star Bjarne Pedersen officially brings down the curtain on his career with a Farewell Meeting at Poole tonight (Wednesday – UK time).
Pedersen enjoyed sustained success with the Pirates over ten seasons in their colours, and then won a further top-flight title with Peterborough last year. The Panthers provide the opposition for a special challenge match with five of the Premiership side’s regular septet lining up, whilst Kyle Newman is added to the home team.
Co-promoter Danny Ford said: “I think the best way we can mark Bjarne’s loyalty to Poole is to have a full stadium to witness his final circuit of the track. “He has been a wonderful servant to the club over the years and is such a great chap.
“I feel sure that we will see families of different generations all gathering to pay homage to Bjarne as his long career deserves.”

BIRMINGHAM launch their new era at Perry Barr tonight (Wednesday) with a special Challenge match against a Coventry Bees Select.
The Brummies will have their full septet on track for the first time, including British Champion Adam Ellis who signed for the club on the eve of the campaign.
Ellis said: “I was delighted when Birmingham were saved because it’s such a good place with great people. It would have been a massive blow for the sport to lose them. “I hope the fans turn out and support the club and support the people who have kept them on track. I’m pleased to be a part of it.
“It’s been a bit frantic getting everything ready because of the way things developed over the last few days, but I’m looking forward to getting started.”
The meeting is also expected to attract considerable support from Coventry, who have been absent from the professional sport since developers closed Brandon Stadium at the end of the 2016 season as they pursue a planning application for housing.

KENT opened the National Development League season with an impressive 52-38 win at Plymouth on Tuesday.
The new-look Royals took all four league points from the meeting with Alfie Bowtell (11), Ben Morley (11) and Joe Alcock (10) all in double figures. The Centurions were beset by crashes and engine failures, with Dan Gilkes top-scoring on 13 points.
