RUSTY RUNS RAMPANT AT TIMMIS
On a balmy 30 degree Sunday night in front a huge crowd Rusty Hickman put on a clinic taking out quickest time, winning both his heats and then locking in the 30 lap Synopec Lubricants 360 Easter Nationals.
Hickman had only just returned to racing after an injury in January sidelined him from the major shows. When he returned, he was on the pace and, following his victory, he then treated the crowd to a do-nut session that had them roaring for more.
Young hard charger Ben Morris had his best podium result after he lined up in position 11 and came home in second. Local hero Cam Waters was placed third. Lining up on the front row was Hickman and Jordyn Charge.
Charge kept with the pack but got swallowed up and backed up a bit but worked his way back up to third before he crossed the finish line in fifth.
Starting in position four, Charles Hunter led the early laps looking fast but had to pull in when his bonnet lifted which, obviously, blocked his vision.
After his first A Main victory Friday night Todd Moule’s luck had turned against him after he sat on the infield with engine problems. Mark Caruso finished strongly after he started in position ten and finished fourth.
Running his dad’s 50th anniversary tribute car Todd Hobson was quick and moved into second spot before he pulled infield with front end damage a couple of laps from the finish.
Steve Caruso, Zac Farrer, Paul Solomon, Ryan Davis, Brendan Guerin, Lisa Walker, Brett Smith, Jason Bolitho, Blake Walsh rounded out the remainder of the field.
“What a night and man what a race. We were concerned about the weather with light drizzle threatening off and on, but luck was on our side and we managed to get it done. The track was superb allowing two or more lines of racing on
both nights. The crowd were privileged to see some of the best racing this season and that was in all the sections. A big congrats to the team at Timmis Speedway for supplying an excellent race track again and a brilliant weekend,” All Stars operator Mandy Searle said.
Heat wins – Rusty Hickman x 2, Todd Hobson, Brendan Guerin, Corey Sandow, Jordyn Charge.
