EASTERN CREEK SPEEDWAY’S MAY 21 FIXTURE CANCELLED
With a forecast of 70% chance of showers tomorrow (Friday) followed by a 95% chance of showers with possible rainfall of 4 to 10mm for Saturday and an already saturated race track and infield, an early decision has been made to cancel this Saturday’s event at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Speedway.
After five days of sunshine and an extensive attempt to bring the track back to race ready, the circuit and infield are continuing to retain water and unfortunately even a brief shower would halt proceedings.
Engineers have been on site today (Thursday, May 19) and working toward a solution to address the drainage issues for the long term, with works to be completed during the off season.
Next week’s forecast is not looking favourable and if rain continues as predicted, an early decision will be made regarding the May 28 event.
Eastern Creek promoters, Speedway Promotions, are hoping to have some fine, dry weather leading into our June 11 season finale, with updates provided closer to the date.
If race fans have tickets from May 14, they will be able to use them for upcoming events, including next season for any of the first three fixtures run. If spectators have paper tickets or wristbands please keep them in a safe place, for online ticket holders, they will be re-activated for scanning.
Alternatively a refund option is still available.
Speedway Promotions appreciate everyone’s support. “Thank you for bearing with us during these difficult times while we keep working through the teething problems of a new facility,” a spokesperson said.
