STUBBER’S AMERICAN SWING
West Australia’s Paul Stubber has started his American journey over the past two weekends.
The opening three shows for the Bar31 Rocket Late Model crew were last weekend during the Illinois Speedweek, where the team failed to make the field amongst the 50 entries.
However this past weekend Paul game to grips with the tough American Late Model scene. He raced this previous Friday night at the Farmer City Speedwayy in Illinois in what was classified as a local show.
In a very impressive performance, Stubber recored his first top-five result after qualifying for the feature race and finished with a fifth placing. Not a win, but a great efforts against some very tough opposition.
He then followed that up that effort with another strong showing, this time at Adams County Speedway for the MARS Racing Series which attacts the heavy hitters. A thirteenth placing overall was good in view of the standard of opposition. He ran on the pace throughout and was not disgraced.. Well done, Paul Stubber.
The 40 lap $7,000 to win main event featured some great racing. Jason Feger took the lead on the opening lap and looked to be in control even after a couple of cautions that slowed the event in the early stages. In the middle stages Ryan Unzicker battles with Feger. Just past the halfway point Feger came in turn three a little too hard and jumped the cushion and this allowed Unzicker to take the lead. Feger would regain his rhythm was still in contention for the lead. Then in the final laps Tommy Sheppard Jr joined the party. After starting tenth, Tommy was able to roll the bottom groove and make it three wide as the laps wound down. Sheppard found some traction on the bottom and scooted past Feger and Unzicker for the win. It was his second win of the weekend and fifth of the season, Tommy was speechless in GP Lithium victory lane as he struggled with words to describe the dream he claims to be living right now. This was Tommy’s first career MARS series win as he plans to run for the points title and the Sunoco Racing Rookie of the Year.
