ALEXANDER CLAIMS AMAZING AUSTRALIAN MODLITE TITLE IN BROOME

South Australian Ryan Alexander has claimed a remarkable victory in the 2022 MG Tyres Bridgestone Australian Modlite Title this evening at the Broome Speedway in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Alexander took the lead on the final circulation after Western Australian Champion BK Halliday spun on the last lap of a thrilling A Main.

Twenty competitors took part in the final night of the first Australian Modlite Title.

Queensland’s Klinton Hancey made light work of his final two heat races to claim pole position for the decider.

Shane Price (South Australia) ended his weekend when he went upside in heat seven.

Nineteen competitors faced the starters in the A Main with Hancey taking the lead straight away.

BK Halliday quickly moved into second place putting Zac Minshull back into the clutches of Rob Kirk amd Justin Chadwick.

The race was in Hancey’s control as Zac Minshull spun on lap five while in fourth place causing a stoppage.

Multiple stoppages for spun cars at the back of the field plagued the first ten laps of the race.

Hancey continued to control the race until South Australians Dylan Richter and Justin Chadwick came together with Chadwick sent to the rear of the field.

As the cars circulated under the yellow lights conditions, Hancey’s car began to show signs of distress with smoke coming from the engine room of the Q12.

Hancey headed infield on lap fifteen in what was a cruel twist of fate for the 2018 National Champion.

Halliday assumed the lead as the yellow lights came on for the spun Mark Murray.

Halliday was soon under pressure from Ryan Alexander who had come from position ten to be challenging for the race lead.

It was a titanic struggle as Alexander threw everything at Halliday as the crowd were on their feet cheering in Broome.

Halliday would greet the white flag in the lead as Alexander continued to harass the back of the W24.

The BK Signs & Print entry looped in turn one, handing the lead to Alexander with Rob Kirk inheriting second place.

Ryan Alexander became the new Australian Champion defeating Rob Kirk by 2.23 seconds with Halliday officially third.

Richter crossed the line in fourth place as Broome local Tom Oliver rounded out the top five.

Alexander was extremely emotional in victory lane thanking his family and supporters after doing a engine change overnight.
