SCUNTHORPE’S NARROW VICTORY
SCUNTHORPE edged out Redcar 47-43 in an enthralling Championship clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
The meeting went down to a last heat decider with Scorpions No.1 Ryan Douglas storming through from last to first, whilst Erik Riss and Lewis Kerr passed Jake Allen to secure a league point for the Bears.
The visitors had pulled back from ten points down to just two, before guests Justin Sedgmen and Connor Coles took a key 4-2 in Heat 14 to put the Scorpions 44-40 ahead.
Douglas top-scored with 14 points from five rides, whilst Charles Wright led the way for the Bears with 11.
Scunthorpe boss Dave Peet said: “We knew Redcar would be tough to beat – they always are. They ride our place well, just as we ride their place well. But the boys did the job and we got the points.
“It was good to see Ryan Douglas back on it. Ryan is such a classy rider and has been a great No.1 this season, but recently he’s had a few problems with his shoulder. But this evening he showed no ill effects from that at all, scored heavily, and he got us over the winning line in Heat 15.
“All-in-all it was a good team performance, and we fully deserved the three league points against a battling Redcar side.”

EDINBURGH will take a 16-point lead to Glasgow today (Saturday) for the second leg of their KO Cup quarter-final.
The Monarchs gave their best performance of the season to register a 53-37 home win on Friday, in a major turnaround from the Tigers’ 12-point victory on their previous visit.
Sam Masters led the way with a full 15-point maximum and combined for two late 5-1s with Josh Pickering (12+2) whilst Craig Cook scored eight for the Tigers, who were limited to three race wins.
Edinburgh boss Alex Harkess said: “That was a very good and very determined performance, I was very happy with it.
“There were some really tough first corners out there tonight but we were very competitive, and there were also some excellent overtakes especially by Josh Pickering as usual, and our guest Dillon Ruml.”
The Monarchs are forced into further changes for the second leg with Masters and Pickering racing in Poland for Rawicz, whose fixture takes priority, so Richard Lawson and Justin Sedgmen come in to guest.

BELLE Vue made it three home NDL wins in on the bounce with a 57-33 Bank Holiday victory over Oxford.
Jack Smith scored 13+1 and debutant Jake Mulford added 11 for the Colts, whilst Sam Hagon and guest Henry Atkins both scored 10+1 for the Chargers who made several late changes to their scheduled line-up.
Colts star Nathan Ablitt (9) said: “It was a great performance from all the boys but full credit to Oxford. They weren’t at full strength, but they really gave us a run for our money.
“There was a point where they made us sweat a little bit, but thankfully we all got our heads together and pushed on, and we got another big home win.
“It was great to see Jake slot into the team so quickly.
We knew he would go well around here, and he fitted into our dynamic nicely.”Meanwhile the British Youth events were won by Ace Pijper at 500cc level and Luke Harrison in the 250cc class.

BERWICK face Leicester in both Championship and NDL in a double header at Shielfield Park tonight (Saturday, 6.30pm).
The senior encounter sees the Bandits face the league leaders, still with rider replacement in operation for Jye Etheridge whilst Lee Complin guests for Ty Proctor.
The Lions bring in Jason Edwards at reserve with Anders Rowe having left the club, and they continue with r/r for Connor Mountain whose partner is giving birth.
Bandits boss Gary Flint said: “It certainly doesn’t get any easier, Leicester following Glasgow at Shielfield.
“We are determined to get ourselves back into the battle for a play-off spot and get points on the board – home and away.”
Leicester manager Stewart Dickson said: “June is a very busy month for us, and Berwick is never an easy place to go.“I know they’ve lost a couple of matches so far this season at home already, and I put that down to Jye Etheridge being missing, because he’s been scoring very big points for them.
“He’s missing again on Saturday so there is a chance for us to get something there, but it won’t be easy.”
In the NDL, Berwick are at full strength and lead the table, whilst second-placed Leicester bring in Kyran Lyden at reserve as Kai Ward was injured in a grasstrack crash last weekend.
Lion Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “This weekend will be the Cubs’ biggest challenge of the season so far.
“Berwick have a strong and solid team from one to seven, but we will also be looking to continue our really positive start to the season.”
