(SPEEDWAY 1)

BIRMINGHAM will be without Danish racer Claus Vissing for tonight’s (Wednesday – UK time) Championship clash with second-placed Glasgow.
The Brummies say Vissing is missing “after making himself unavailable at short notice” and they will “hold talks with Vissing in the coming days regarding his future with Birmingham Speedway.”

They also bring in Lewis Kerr as a guest for the injured Josh Auty.
The Tigers are in the race for a top two finish and now look to build on impressive recent home results against Leicester and Redcar.

Birmingham boss Laurence Rogers said: “Our boys are on a high and feeling confident after our last two performances at Perry Barr and we feel we can cover Claus’s points using the other Brummies in the team with everyone except guest Lewis Kerr able to come in for his programmed rides.

“We’re expecting a tough one against Glasgow, especially with a few ex-Brummies in their side, but as I said the lads are in good spirits, they’ve got nothing to lose and it should be another entertaining meeting all-round.”

Tigers manager Cami Brown said: “We’re looking forward to going to Birmingham on Wednesday now and looking for an away win, which we really need.

“We have had some good away wins so far this season and a couple of disappointments – Oxford was one of them – but we hope we can go and win that on Wednesday. That is the next target.”

OXFORD face Plymouth at Cowley tonight (Wednesday) with the Gladiators still in the race for the top two in the Championship.

The visitors bring in Danny King to guest for the injured Edward Kennett, whilst skipper Hans Andersen is now available for the meeting.
Rider replacement is in operation for Michael Palm Toft after his unsuccessful comeback on Monday.
For the home side, Dillon Ruml moves into the top five with Cameron Heeps at reserve, and Luke Killeen stands in at No.7.
 
(SPEEDWAY 3)

MILDENHALL boosted their NDL play-off hopes with a 55-35 win at Plymouth on Tuesday.
Reserve Josh Warren scored 12+2 for the Fen Tigers with Jason Edwards (10+2) and Sam Bebee (10+1) both in double figures as they took all four league points.
Ben Morley scored a 15-point maximum in his guest appearance at No.1 for the Centurions.

POOLE manager Neil Middleditch will finally get to stage his long-awaited Testimonial Meeting on Wednesday August 31.
The former Pirates skipper originally held the event in 1984 but lost the entire proceeds when the club’s promotion went into administration – and having been granted a benefit meeting in 2020, it was delayed due to the pandemic.

Middleditch plans to stage a 15-heat challenge match between teams sponsored by long-time Poole backers County Crest Pallets and Meridian Lifts (in the name of the late Joanne Tomlin).

He said: “I’m incredibly touched by the amazing response I’ve had in preparation for the meeting. “Most of what we had planned back in March 2020 is still in place and I’m so grateful that, almost without exception, everyone who offered sponsorship and support then has stayed on board.
“There are some truly incredible people in this sport and, to be honest, that’s one of the reasons why I am still in it!”
 
(SPEEDWAY 5)

THE Young Lions in association with the promotions at both Redcar and Scunthorpe successfully held a double-header of youth rounds on Sunday.

A total of 28 riders competed in the morning at Redcar split across the three groups of 500cc, 125cc and 125cc Support Class, and also four demonstration races from William Cairns and Caydin Martin riding their 250cc motorcycles, with the series then moving to Scunthorpe in the evening.

Youth boss Neil Vatcher said: “There was some fantastic racing at both venues and the winners at the events were Jody Scott and Ben Trigger in the 500cc class at Redcar and Scunthorpe respectively, Cooper Rushen won both events in the 125cc class, with Harry Fletcher winning the support class at Redcar and Jack Franklin at Scunthorpe.

“The only blip on what was a successful day was a broken wrist by Adam Sidyk who competes in the support class, and everyone at the Young Lions wishes him a speedy recovery.”
