LEICESTER IN JUBILEE CONTENTION
LEICESTER joined Glasgow and Poole in the Championship Jubilee League Final with a 56-34 win over Scunthorpe in the final Northern group fixture.
The Lions needed to win the meeting and avoid the Scorpions taking a point, and they achieved that target with two races remaining as Nick Morris completed a 12-point maximum.
Kyle Howarth added 11+2 and Richie Worrall 10 in another strong home performance, whilst Richard Lawson guested for the visitors and scored 16 – but they miss out on the Final on race points difference.
Leicester boss Stewart Dickson said: “The meeting was nip and tuck for the first five or six races, and I always felt if we went six ahead Richard Lawson would be getting seven riders with the rider replacement.
“But we got into our stride, and we are pretty good round here. I’m not saying the scoreline flattered us at 56-34, but I don’t think we panicked at any stage, and I think we were well worth the victory.
“We’ve got a place in the Final and you could probably argue it is the three ‘big’ teams in the Final, so that’s going to be really tough, but we’re just glad to get there and overall I’m pretty pleased.”

BERWICK halted their home winless streak at the eighth attempt with a 59-30 win over Plymouth at Shielfield Park.
The result moved the Bandits above Oxford in the Championship, and featured a first senior maximum for Leon Flint as he scored 14+1 from five rides – and skipper Chris Harris was also unbeaten with 13+2, whilst Jordan Jenkins guested at reserve for Jonas Knudsen and racked up 14+3.
Jenkins took seven rides due to his reserve colleague Nathan Stoneman suffering a suspected broken shoulder blade in a frightening Heat 2 crash. Guest Lewis Kerr top-scored for the Gladiators with 9+2.
Berwick boss Gary Flint said: “It’s been a long time coming, which makes victory even sweeter.
“After pushing Edinburgh so close on Friday night we did expect a tough battle from Plymouth but, despite losing Nathan, we stamped our authority on the meeting early.
“Bomber and Leon have been carrying the burden when the going has been tough so it was only right that they should spearhead our victory.”
Meanwhile Berwick Bullets are back on top of the National Development League after running up a huge 67-23 win over thejr Plymouth counterparts.
Ace Pijper scored 12+2 for the hosts whilst Luke Crang (12), Greg Blair (12) and Kyle Bickley (10+2) all recorded maximums. Guest Sam McGurk scored 10 for the Centurions.

ARMADALE are finally off the mark in the National Development League after defeating Plymouth 51-39 on Saturday afternoon.
Recent signing Lee Complin led the way for the Devils with 12+1, backed up by skipper Tom Wolley on 11+2 in a solid team display.
Kyle Bickley guested for the Centurions and scored 17 with Rhys Naylor adding 10+1, but they were to sufferer a heavier defeat later in the evening at Berwick.
Woolley said: “It was a long time coming but we finally have got a win on the board and some points on the board, and now we aren’t the laughing stock.
“It was a good performance, all the boys rode well, and hopefully it will give us something to build on.”
