SHEFFIELD STORMS TO GRAND FINAL QUALIFICATION
SHEFFIELD steamrollered their way to the Premiership Grand Final with a massive 61-29 semi-final win over Wolverhampton.
The Tigers headed back to Owlerton with a four-point lead from the first leg and put the tie effectively beyond their opponents in the opening four races, by which time they had added ten points to their advantage.
All seven home riders won at least one race with Jack Holder leading the way on 11+2, whilst Adam Ellis and recent signing Lewis Kerr both scored 9+2 – with Rising Star reserve Connor Mountain (8+1) unbeaten from his first three rides.
Wolves were limited to just three race wins, two from skipper Sam Masters (6) whilst Ryan Douglas scored 7+1 as Sheffield roared to an aggregate victory of 108-72 to set up a Grand Final against Roses rivals Belle Vue.
Tigers manager Simon Stead said: “I’m just ever so proud. The lads have been absolutely phenomenal – they’ve been great to work with all season but they have really stepped it up in recent weeks.
“When you look down the scorecard and look at what they’re all doing, they’re all doing their bit.
“They’re all hungry for it and they deserve their place in the Grand Final.”
Masters said: “That was pretty embarrassing with the scoreline over the two legs.
“Sheffield were, obviously, the better team and we’ve lost to a really good team.
“I’m not going to stand here and make any excuses, we lost to a good team and that’s that, we’re gutted.”

EDINBURGH have secured the services of British Champion Dan Bewley for the Farewell to Armadale meeting on Saturday October 15.
Bewley, who won two GPs this season and finished sixth overall in his debut campaign, made his senior debut with the Monarchs in 2016.
A stunning 2022 season also saw him secure the Czech Golden Helmet in Pardubice recently, and he will now look to win the Jack Young Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the Scottish Open Championship – with that event forming the bulk of what is set to be the final meeting at Armadale Stadium.

OXFORD’S Sam Hagon has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with two broken fingers and ligament damage.
Hagon crashed in Heat 15 of Wednesday’s 46-44 play-off win over Leicester, putting him out of the second leg on Saturday. The Chargers have moved quickly to book Adam Roynon to guest.
Manager Peter Schroeck said: “It’s gutting for Sam, who is going to be ruled out for four to six weeks, which puts him out of the rest of the season.
“As soon as I knew Sam was out, I was straight on the phone to Adam Roynon to ride for us at Leicester.
“Adam has finished for both Scunthorpe and Plymouth and had packed his gear away for the year, but we get on really well with him, so he’s agreed to unpack it again for us!”
The Chargers have also announced youngster Ashton Boughen will again cover for the injured Arran Butcher on Saturday – with the 15-year-old having previously been set to line up for Mildenhall in their play-off at Berwick.
