TATNELL ANNOUNCES AUSSIE RETURN
The Shaun Dobson Racing team has announced Brooke Tatnell will be making his long-awaited return to Australia – and they have locked him in as their team driver for what is a jam-packed 2022-23 season schedule.
In what is going to be Tatnell’s first trip to Australia in nearly three years, the Hobart, Tasmanian-based team recently approached Tatnell about the possibility of him running for them.
“Brooke and our family have known each other for a long time and we have always had a strong relationship, so I reached out to him to see if he was interested in driving for our team, and it all snow balled from there,” commented team owner Andrew Dobson.
“It’s very exciting for our team to be making a return to Sprintcar racing and to be able to do it with a driver of Brooke’s calibre, makes it all the more special.”
The Dobson and Tatnell duo’s plans for this two-month trip are to run Sydney’s Eastern Creek Speedway over the Christmas-New Year period, followed by venturing up to Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway for the Australian Open and then they will be heading south into Victoria and South Australia to compete in the President’s Cup at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway, the King’s Challenge at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway and the Grand Annual Classic at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway. After that, they will conclude their schedule by travelling over to Western Australia to compete in the Australian Championship at the Perth Motorplex.
“We have mapped out a very busy schedule running all of the major shows, and the team’s goal is to be a front-running contender night in night out – and nothing less,” stated Dobson.
“Brooke has been a world-class driver for many years now and it’s fantastic for the sport of Sprintcar racing here in Australia to have one of their favourite sons back on our shores racing in the major events across the country.”
The Shaun Dobson Racing team will be campaigning a Cool Chassis and KRE Race Engines package for Tatnell and also run under the family’s Tas # 77. It will also see Shane Finch run the team once again, and as most know, he has a long association with Tatnell through their years working together at the Krikke Motorsport team.
After 15 years running with his son Shaun in firstly Junior Sedans and then Sprintcars, which has seen Shaun step away from racing, for team owner Andrew Dobson, this is going to be the first time he has had a driver other than a family member run under the Shaun Dobson Racing banner.
“Shaun has retired from racing due to family and business commitments, but you can never say never when it comes to whether or not he could un-retire himself down the track,” joked Andrew Dobson.
