Carson Macedo produced two stunning drives to claim the Sprintcar and Midget main events at Eastern Creek Speedway to start off 2023.Macedo started the 35-lap feature from pole after being the fastest driver in the Gold Shootout.
He led every lap of the main event and collected the win by 0.704 seconds ahead of Ian Madsen.Macedo and Madsen worked the top side of the track through lap traffic as the race was halted on multiple occasions.
While running third Marcus pulled infield on lap 13 and appeared to be in pain.Something came through his rock screen smashing his visor and hitting him in the face.
The team took to social media today (Monday) to provide an update on his condition.“Marcus sustained a broken nose.”“Marcus managed to pull off and after the race went to hospital to get checked out.“Marcus has since been released with a broken nose but cleared to race with no concussion.”
Driving the Dyson Motorsport N99, Macedo became the first driver at the venue to win in two different categories, and on the same night.
Madsen claimed his third podium in four races at the venue so far throughout his Australian season.Ryan Newton charged through the field, he started 12th and finished in third. It’s his second podium at the venue, to back up his third-place finish on the 26th November. Sam Walsh started second but came home fourth followed by Jordyn Brazier.
With a new car after a heavy crash on Boxing Night, Brendan Scorgie claimed his best result at the track with a sixth-place finish, Randy Morgan drove from 20th to seventh, Troy Little was eighth, Daniel Sayre ninth and Aaron Kelly completed the top ten after starting down in 19th.
MIDGETS
Macedo’s first feature win of the night came in the Midgets when he drove from 16th to first for the win. Macedo took the lead away from Mitch Brien as the pair crossed the line to start lap six and from that moment on Macedo was never challenged.
Michael Stewart made his way into second by lap nine, but a drop in oil pressure meant he retired the car three laps later. Macedo claimed the win by 7.499 seconds, the biggest winning margin seen in Midgets at the venue.
Brien’s second place was a long time coming, and it was his first podium at the track. Nathan Smee fended off a fast finishing Matt Geering on the final lap to hold onto the final spot on the podium in third. Geering was fourth, followed by Rusty Whittaker who made the late trip to Eastern Creek Speedway.
Troy Jenkins was sixth, Matthew Jackson, Daniel Paterson, DJ Raw and Jack Bell rounded out the top ten.
LEGEND CARS
Robert Rawlings clinched his second feature victory in the Legend Cars winning a shortened 15-lap race. Rawlings started on the outside front row and took the lead into turn one.
Troy Bolton vaulted from the second row up to second while Parker had to settle for third. Bolton then fell back through the field as Adam Parker and Liam Camilleri battled for second. The two would hold their positions as the race was declared after the fifth caution.
It was a lucky call for Rawlings whose car came to a stop on the back straight and had to be pulled infield – luckily for him he was still awarded the win. Rawlings, Parker, Camilleri completed the podium, followed by Darren Snowden and Brett Mitchell completing the top five. Sean Rooney, Matt Elliott, Riley Flanagan, Brett Muller and Bray Jones is how the top ten ended.
Round one of the Sprintcar State Series for Queensland and New South Wales will be held on January four, with the feature paying $10,000 to win.
V8 Dirt Modifieds and Formula 500 Juniors are also on the program.
