DOYLE READY FOR ACTION
IPSWICH No.1 Jason Doyle is ready for a big clash of the top stars in a mouth-watering Premiership opener at Foxhall on Thursday.
Doyle has been joined by Emil Sayfutdinov in the Witches’ ranks but opponents Peterborough will arrive with major signings of their own, including treble World Champion Nicki Pedersen and fellow GP winner Niels-Kristian Iversen.
Said Doyle: “We’re in it to win it. And a good start against Peterborough is our first goal.
“Our first meeting against Nicki and Niels-Kristian is going to be good for me and Emil to show them the right way around Ipswich – and hopefully come out with that win.
“Having Nicki back in British Speedway is amazing, so now we’ve got about six of the top 20 riders in the world back in Britain. For fans it must be great to have that happen after so many years without them.”

PETERBOROUGH have appointed long-serving Danish racer Hans Andersen as captain for the new Premiership season.
Andersen reclaims the role with the Panthers taking over from Scott Nicholls, who led the club to the title in 2021 but is not racing in the top-flight this year.
Manager Rob Lyon said: “I spoke to Hans in the early part of the winter when we decided to go down that road, and I just felt it was the right thing to do.
“He’s experienced, he’s a bit of a legend at Peterborough, he wanted to come back and I’ve seen in the pits in the last two years how he is with everyone. He’s a good team man and it was a natural choice for me.”

LONG-TERM Poole backers Wessex Marine have stepped up their backing of the club to become main team sponsors for the coming season.
The company have supported the Pirates throughout owner Matt Ford’s tenure, as well as backing individual riders and the British Youth series, and will now put their name to the reigning Cab Direct Championship holders.
Ford said: “We haven’t had a main team sponsor now for the past few seasons and to think that we now can carry the Wessex Marine name in our title is a great thing. “They have been associated with Poole Speedway for so many years, even before I bought the club.
David, Amanda, Guy and Toby have always been there for us and without fail, since I have owned Poole Speedway, they have been the first sponsors to come on board each season.
“So, as Poole Speedway heads into its 75th season we are delighted to have such loyal backing, and hopefully we can repeat the achievements of the past two seasons and in 2023 see the Poole Wessex Marine Pirates as champions.”
