FORMER WORLD CHAMP CHRIS HOLDER TO RACE IN AUSTRALIAN SPEEDWAY CENTENARY
Australia’s thirty-five year old, 2012 World Speedway Champion, Chris Holder, is the latest big name star to commit to racing in the prestigious 2023 Australian Speedway Centenary at North Brisbane Speedway on December 28 and 29.
Holder joins Great Britain’s triple World Champion, Tai Woffinden, as another genuine super star of the sport, committing to contest the December 29 (the second night of the Centenary event) speedway classic, in quest of the Australian Speedway Solo Centurion Trophy.
The New South Welshman returned to racing in Poland last weekend producing a solid performance, winning his last two races, after a lengthy lay-off due to sustaining fractured vertebrae in his neck, following a serious crash whilst competing in Europe on April 25 of this year.
Australian Speedway Centenary co-promoter, Darcy Ward, who combined with Chris Holder, to win the 2014 World Pairs Championship, says he’s thrilled to have Chris committing to an event that promises to deliver on every level.
“It’s great that Chris is so keen on taking part in the December 29 Solo Centurions,” Ward said.
“Chris has had a torrid run with injuries; but he’s as tough as they come and he’ll be on the pace again very quickly. He showed last weekend in Poland that he’ll pose a threat at any meeting he contests and he’ll definitely be one of the boys to beat at the Australian Speedway Centenary.”
Meantime, Chris Holder says he’s very pleased to see an event the magnitude of the Australian Speedway Centenary being staged.
“I’m really pumped about this meeting,” he enthused.
“The sport deserves a big show to celebrate 100 years and I have no doubt the two meetings (Sidecars night one and Solos night two) will be organised and presented in a highly professional manner. I’m really glad to be a part of it. From what I’m hearing, it’s going to be a red hot field, as it should be.”
Chris Holder has forged a stellar career since embarking on the international racing scene in 2006 (riding for Isle of Wight in the UK); ultimately becoming the fifth Australian to win the senior World Individual Speedway Championship.
Further rider signings will be announced in coming days.
