Arguably New Zealand’s best ever sidecar rider, Andrew “Spud” Buchanan, is the latest big name rider to be locked in for the prestigious Australian Speedway Centenary.
Buchanan, who’s forged a stellar career, will team up with the highly talented Denny Cox in an all-out assault, on the Sidecar Centurions event, headlining night one (December 28) of the two-night Centenary super show.
Buchanan has been a regular visitor to Australia over the past decade, proving he can mix it with the very best teams in the world, thus creating a highly impressive resume.
Andrew’s career in speedway sidecars has seen him finish on the podium in the NZ Championship three times. He’s also had one victory in the NZGP and has finished runner-up in the Australian Championship on two occasions.
The Kiwi has finished runner-up in two FIM Oceania Championships and has been placed third in the FIM World Championship twice. He has also won the Victorian Championship and been the runner-up in the NSW Championship three times.
“I’m thrilled that we’ve been invited to contest the Australian Speedway Centenary,” Andrew says.
“This is a big deal and Denny and I will be trying very hard to dent some big reputations on the world sidecar scene. I love racing in Australia and we’ve had some success there, so I want to really build on that and give a good account of myself.
“We’ll be ready to rumble at the North Brisbane venue and I’m counting down the days already,” Buchanan concluded.
